It's time to stop beating around the bush. I'm losing the tip of my second toe, right foot. And maybe the nail of the 3rd, no big loss, but a loss. I've made jokes that I've told mostly to my niece only, because she gets my humor (and suggested that maybe not everybody would find them funny). Good caution. Giving up anything that is ours is counter to the natural order of things. Losing something of our body and our brain can be something that happens more frequently as life on earth is drawing to a close. Reminders of death can be a threat. Some folks are squeamish, and I don't want to cause anyone discomfort. I was squeamish. I had to give it up.

  1. You know what? Reading this a few days later, I see that giving up something that ours is absolutely the natural order of things. It's just that the struggle is against that natural order. And just because losses are natural does not mean that the counter struggle is wrong. On the contrary, the struggle is natural too.
