First physical therapy today at the National Rehab Hospital clinic on Wisconsin Ave. (5530). I expected to be pretty tired after a workout, but it was, of course, a workup today and a few beginning exercises toward increasing the strength and range of motion of the toes of the right foot. That really does not exhaust you. I like John Jowers, the foot and ankle therapist; he's careful and explained everything clearly. This could take a couple of months.  But I can walk in the bigboot, drive in the sandal, and do a whole lot of what I did in normal bipedal life.

Saw Dr. Polun earlier in the day. He was really pleased with the progress. Me too!

  1. More good things in the day...iced tea at Starbucks with Gus, old friend from Marquette.

A fellow duffer recovering from a broken ankle and knee problems on the corner of Wisconsin and Harrison after a 32 Metrobus sped by, ignoring our canes waving in the air. Maybe the bus was averse to stopping outside Fox News.

And being able to walk nonstop from Starbucks to 5530 Wisconsin (almost 2 blocks) in the heat, full of vim. 6 weeks ago I tried the same trip on the knee scooter. To my shock, I had to stop 5 times and sit down on the scooter; half a block away, my cabbie, Vaz drove by and took me the rest of the way. Today...I got stamina!

  2. Hurray for stamina! Do the toe exercises hurt?

    1. No pain in the exercises, just beginning to work on range of motion up and down gently, and strengthening.
